Andrew Ervin Romack, 62, was arrested following a joint investigation by the fire marshal and Maryland State Police following a reported burglary earlier this week at an Allegany County home.

Investigators say that shortly after 1 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, troopers were called to the 20300 block of Lower Georges Creek Road, where it is alleged Romack forced his way into his estranged girlfriend's home.

Troopers were able to swiftly arrest Romack and located possible IEDs during their search of the property, prompting a call to the Fire Marshal's Bomb Squad.

Bomb Technicians performed diagnostics on the devices and "determined it was necessary to perform render-safe procedures on the devices at the scene."

A search of Romack's vehicle and on the property determined there were no other explosive materials in the area. Romack was arrested and taken to the Allegany County Detention Center.

He was charged with:

  • Manufacturing and possessing a destructive device
  • Trespassing on private property;
  • Fourth-degree burglary;
  • Reckless endangerment;
  • Possession of an explosive device with intent.

"The quick recognition of the potential hazard with this device by the responding troopers and their decision to immediately contact us was appropriate in this incident," acting State Fire Marshal Jason Mowbray stated. "This serves as a positive reminder to all members of the public of the National message, 'See Something, Say Something.'"

Romack is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center without bond.
